Mud Pie

A book that is revving with energy is Kate & Jim McMullan’s, I’m Dirty! This book really makes you want to get outside and play hard. It also has a great lesson for cleaning up! The backhoe loader in the story does a great job at clearing out junk and putting things back in order. Next time there is a mess to be cleaned up, try having a clean up countdown just like the busy truck. And if the references to deserts in the story get you in the mood for something sweet, make this amazing Mud Pie.

Clean Up Countdown!

Make a list of items that you need to clean up, put back or organize and have a clean up countdown. Count as you clean and make notes on your list as you go. When you are all finished, see if you can put the numbers in order or draw a picture of the mess before and after.

Mud Pie

1 store bought Oreo cookie pie crust

½ cup pitted dates (previously soaked for about 20 mins.)

½ cup of powdered sugar

¼ cup maple syrup

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

¾ cup of coconut milk

2 or 3 (depending on size) mashed ripe avocados

2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Candies of your choice for decorating (I used vegan dark chocolate covered almonds and

chocolate chips)

In a food processor, place all ingredients besides pie crust and decorating candies. Blend all ingredients until smooth. Pour the chocolate mixture into the piecrust and place it in the fringe for about 30-40 minutes to set. When ready, have fun decorating with candy!
